OUR PROGRAMS

Shiksha Daan provides free online tutoring to K-12 students from low-income families in the Greater Cleveland area during the school year. The tutoring is done mainly by members of the local Indian community. Students who register for the program are matched one on one with a tutor. The student and tutor are expected to meet virtually for at least two hours each week during the school year. Our goal for these sessions is to help the student get the support they might need to then succeed in the classroom.

For the 2020-21 school year we had 11 students, mainly from refugee families, enrolled in our online tutoring program. All the students had individual tutors and all showed significant improvement in their grades for this academic year.

SHIKSHA DAAN STUDENTS

We are looking to enroll more students for the 2022-23 school year! The basic requirements for the student are that the student has access to a computer and a good internet connection, has the ability to be attentive on the computer for an hour, and has a quiet private place to participate in the tutoring session.

SHIKSHA DAAN TUTORS

We are looking to enroll more tutors this year as well! Our main requirement to be a tutor is that you can interact with young students in a meaningful way. Please note that you will also be expected to go through a security check.

SCHOOL SUPPLY DONATIONS

Shiksha Daan donates school supplies to organizations that are serving students from low-income families. In 2020 we donated 25 Google Chrome computers to Project ACT of the Cleveland Municipal School District (CMSD) for distribution to homeless children attending their schools. If you would like to donate to Shiksha Daan to support this effort, please click the button below. If your organization is interested in receiving donations of school supplies, contact us.
